University of Maryland University College’s Career Services and Alumni Relations team recently hosted a virtual Recruiter Session with State of Maryland, Verizon, CACI, Leidos, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. More than 150 UMUC alumni and students chatted with recruiters from these premier employers to learn more about possible career opportunities.
Recruiters from each organization were able to review the attendees’ resume and LinkedIn profiles during the virtual event. During the chats, UMUC students and alumni had the opportunity to discuss open job positions with the recruiters by practicing their elevator pitches on “why” they would be a good hiring fit. Prior to the event, attendees were encouraged to research open job positions at the participating companies to maximize the quality of their time during their chats. UMUC’s Career Services and Alumni Relations staff members were also available during the event to answer and questions.
Kevin Wilson who serves as the senior manager for Lifecycle Architecture & Engineering for Verizon noted, “The event was enjoyable. We received some good resumes that we’re going to vet and it was a big help to us, to look at the candidates’ resume during the session.”
