UMUC Recruiter Session with CSRA, Randstad, RTGX, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

On October 19th, 2017, University of Maryland University College’s (UMUC) Career Services team hosted more than 250 students and alumni online and in-person for a Recruiter Session featuring CSRA, Randstad, RTGX, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The event provided attendees information and insights surrounding the various career opportunities and work culture within each organization.  

The event began with an interactive panel discussion moderated by Dr. Valorie King, program chair and collegiate associate professor of Cybersecurity Management & Policy for UMUC’s Undergraduate School. Among the panelists were Jay Powell, senior program manager and principal Architect with CSRA, Myron Schlueter, program manager with RTGX, Kareemah Woodard, director of Executive Consulting with Randstad, and Nanese Loza, EEO manager with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Dr. King began the panel by asking the recruiters to share insights about their organization and their current hiring needs. Each panelist was also asked specific questions about their hiring process, including the Intel Development Program managed by CSRA that helps entry level students obtain a top secret clearance and ultimately obtain full-time employment within the organization.

Following the panel discussion, great questions came from event attendees, and each recruiter shared different perspectives. One noteworthy comment from the panelists included alumnus Kareemah Woodard when she said, “We help candidates transition into careers with temp and consulting positions, which is a huge part of our mission. We recruit people with various levels of experience, which aligns well with UMUC’s talent pool. ”

Shortly after the panel, Dr. Francine Blume, who serves as assistant vice president of Career Development at UMUC, gave pointed career tips and introduced the speed networking part of the event. The speed networking session provided each in-person attendee the opportunity to connect directly with a recruiter to practice their interview pitch. In addition, online attendees were allowed to email recruiters from CSRA, RTGX, and Randstad to ask additional questions. Attendees interested in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs were encouraged to follow up via the virtual recruiter center.

Following the event, Powell shared, “The event was well put together and filled with great talent and we are looking forward to the next event.”
