May UMUC Virtual Recruiter Session

UMUC’s Career Services hosted its largest Virtual Recruiter Session on Thursday, May 17th featuring ten organizations and helping to connect more than 650 UMUC students and alumni attendees with participating employers. Employers from various industries were represented in the event, including Allegis Global Solutions, Andrews Federal Credit Union, Deloitte, DXC Technology, General Dynamics Information Technology, Leidos, Metropolitan Police Department, NikSoft, RPI Group, Watershed Solutions, and WMATA. During the event, members of the UMUC career advising team were also available via a virtual booth to answer questions and schedule appointments.

The virtual platform allowed attendees to upload their resume upon registering for the event, which allowed recruiters to review and set up one-on-one chats during and after the event.

The employer chat rooms were filled with live-chat conversations, with students and alumni posting their elevator pitch and employers posting details about their hiring needs and pitching their organization.

Many of the recruiters spoke about the quality of the candidates, including Rachel Brentnall, a recruiter with Deloitte. “It was my pleasure to work with the candidates,” Brentnall noted. “I will be reaching out as well as connecting them to other recruiters within Deloitte. Overall, the event was a huge success for me.”

The event provided employers, students, and alumni the opportunity to connect worldwide, which worked well for companies that hire nationally. “Because we hire nationally, this event allowed me to target many of the locations that I oversee,” said Charlie Miles, a recruiter from DXC Technology. “We certainly look forward to participating in more UMUC events.”

Overall, the employers reported that the event was successful and they were impressed with the quality of the candidates and the ability to access resumes from the platform using filters and keywords, which made recruiting efforts more efficient.
