Whether you are a full-time student or juggling a full-time job and school, gaining the necessary experience for your chosen career field can be difficult. More than 70 unique employers will participate in the upcoming 2020 Spring Career Fairs, and many of them are seeking UMGC students and alumni to fill internship and experiential career opportunities. Continue below for a glimpse at the various types of internship opportunities participating employers are seeking talent for.

AARP | Location: HQ Washington, DC | Multiple Locations

Internship for Students & Returning Professionals

AARP offers internship opportunities in an array of areas throughout its organization, including its National Office in Washington, D.C. and offices located in the states and U.S. Territories. AARP offers internships to students who are currently enrolled in degree seeking programs and non-traditional internships for returning professionals currently enrolled in a college course.

ABS Group | Location: Arlington, VA

2020 Summer Internship 

ABS Group is seeking full-time students pursuing a degree in business, economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, information technology, or related disciplines. Interns will work in its Arlington, Virginia office from May-August 2020. ABS Group interns can expect to be integrated into ABS Group’s business operations while also experiencing various aspects of consulting, technical problem solving, and analysis.

Amazon Web Services | HQ Seattle, WA; HQ2 Crystal City, VA; Nationwide

AWS Tech U Program

Amazon Web Services offers a variety of student and recent graduate programs worldwide, one of which is its AWS Tech U Program. This unique program consists of a six-month, instructor-lead, project-based learning curriculum, followed by a six-month On-the-Job Training (OJT) learning assignment within the Technical Account Manager, Customer Solutions Management, Solutions Architecture, Technical Training, or Professional Services Consulting tracks, and will be in a U.S. city based on the needs of the business. AWS provides relocation assistance for both the academic and OJT training assignments. At the end of the six months of OJT, candidates will choose a track suited for their strengths and preference.

Early Talent & Internship Programs

GDIT offers internships and new graduate positions in a diverse range of fields such as finance, technical writing, communications, contract administration, software development, and more. One of its unique offerings is the Early Talent Clearance Program- 2019/2020 Grads, which allows candidates without a security clearance to enter the workforce as a cleared employee through its program.

Corporate Internships

Hilton’s Corporate Internship Program offers aspiring business leaders with the opportunity to gain professional experience at one of its U.S. corporate headquarters. This 10-week summer internship program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students across a variety of majors, from business and marketing to data analytics.

Cybersecurity Summer Internship

This 10-week program is designed to provide real-world and hands-on experience to students interested in entering the field of cybersecurity. Interns will complete at least one internal assignment in addition to receiving training and feedback.

Cathy Francois, MBA, GCDF, is the assistant director of career programming for Career Services at University of Maryland Global Campus and a certified Global Career Development Facilitator. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration from Kaplan University. Cathy’s career began in advertising sales and customer service, after which she transitioned into higher education, working as an admissions advisor. She also served as an academic advising and career services for over seven years.
