Are you looking for a new job? Now just might be the perfect time to make your next career move. That’s because the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in January, the U.S. had a record 11.3 million available jobs—and not enough workers to fill them.

To give UMGC students and alumni the chance to seize these opportunities, UMGC is hosting its seventh annual Virtual Career Fair on March 25. Sponsored by Revature, Peterson Technologies and Apex Systems, the career fair connects job seekers with companies that are actively trying to hire qualified candidates for open positions.

“This year, more than 60 employers are attending our career fair in search of the ideal candidates to join their teams,” says UMGC Assistant Vice President of Career Development Francine Blume. “We’re proud to help make this important connection between members of the UMGC community who are seeking employment and employers who are seeking top-tier candidates.”

Why UMGC is a recruiting ground for employers

Jim Chitwood of Revature, a Virtual Career Fair Platinum Sponsor, says his company is currently hiring for several hundred entry-level technology roles, including software development positions across 55 different industry certifications, skills and competencies. To fill these jobs, he and his colleagues turn to UMGC.

“UMGC grads are well prepared for Revature’s pathway into a tech career,” he explains. “UMGC’s mission to improve the lives of working adults aligns with Revature’s mission to develop technology talent regardless of major, background or circumstance.”

When hiring, Chitwood looks for candidates with two key qualities: aptitude and attitude. When employees possess an openness to growth and a willingness to learn new skills, Revature can help them achieve success. According to Chitwood, he has found candidates with these characteristics at UMGC.

“UMGC alumni have benefited Revature by being agile employees capable of hitting the ground running on day one,” adds Chitwood. “We need people who can solve problems independently and in teams both large and small, and UMGC alumni have demonstrated this ability.”

Revature is one of more than 60 employers tapping into the UMGC student and alumni network to add to their workforce, including Accenture Federal Services, AIG Retirement Services, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Hilton, Maximus, Mercy Medical Center, National Security Agency (NSA) and many more.
